Writing 201: Poetry (Day 5) The Long White Cloud

After a couple of frantic days I finally have time to write my Day 5 poem (very late!). This took me way too long to write this poem. It took me awhile to just sit down and think of how I was going to start and where. Thank God, it all came to me. It was a bit hard to think of “not so clichéd” metaphors but I think I got it down on the end.

Day 5: Map, Ode, Metaphor

The challenge: write about in general terms map(s) or places, in a form of an ode and also by slipping in some metaphor(s) while at it.

I present you my poem below…

Ode to the Long White Cloud

Where is the Long White Cloud? ( I thought you’d never ask!)

So the Long White Cloud is Aotearoa. Aotearoa is the Maori name for New Zealand and Aotearoa translates to the Long White Cloud. With this poem I wanted to pay homage to this country that I call home and share a little bit of where I came from.

  1. I love this white long cloud, and the bright yellow flower heading, and the Jer. 29:11 verse on sidebar. My daughter hopes and plans to visit your country for her college’s study abroad program. Sounds like a beautiful beachy place.
